Three things worth knowing before you go: Check UDOT first. This is high elevation and October weather up there turns over fast — udot.utah.gov or the UDOT Traffic app will tell you what the road is actually doing before you commit to the drive. Go in the morning. The light does more for the color than afternoon sun does, and you'll have the pullouts mostly to yourself. The thing I didn't expect: you don't really notice what a place hands you for free until you've picked a date to leave it. I've driven past this turnoff for years.
