What does leaving look like?
Everybody walks a house asking how it would feel to live there. Almost nobody asks the other question: when I want to leave, what does leaving look like? It’s not a fun question at a showing. It is the one I keep coming back to, because every house is a thing you hold for a while and then hand to somebody else — and the handoff is easier or harder depending on what you bought. The same percentage gain on a smaller purchase is a smaller number of dollars. That’s not a prediction, it’s just arithmetic, and it’s worth knowing before you sign rather than after. Worth asking about too: what the monthly cost has done over the last few years, and what it’s likely to do.
Ask it. I answer in public.
