That 10 weeks comes from the National Association of Realtors' 2025 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers. It's a median, it covers all buyers — not just first-timers — and the survey period runs July 2024 through June 2025. Two things worth knowing about that number: A median means half of buyers took longer than 10 weeks. If you're at week 12 and starting to think something's wrong with you, you're in the normal half. And it measures finding, not closing. The escrow clock starts after you're under contract — so "how long does it take to buy a house" is a bigger number than this one.
