Asking someone to take their shoes off is a hospitality move. It only works if the floor is clean.
I showed a house today where the upstairs carpet was brand new and the downstairs carpet wasn’t there yet. Same sign, same front door. And the second I’m standing on your floor in socks, that floor is part of the showing. The fix is a basket of shoe covers by the door. That’s it. It costs almost nothing and it says “I thought about you getting here”, which is the same instinct as the sellers who leave a note, label the remotes, or tell you which switch does what. And if the floors aren’t ready, I’d just skip the ask. Let people keep their shoes on and keep the walkthrough easy. A footprint is easier to fix than a bad 10 seconds at the door.
